About
TaxRefundCalculator.io is a free, independent tool that estimates your federal tax refund — or how much you might owe — before you file.
How it works. Enter your full-year W-2 amounts, filing status and separate CTC/ODC/EITC counts, then confirm the relevant scope and eligibility questions. The tool estimates a restricted 2026 federal refund or amount owed using the standard deduction, Tax Table or worksheet, eligible CTC/ODC, ordinary ACTC and EITC. Results are provisional because the relevant 2026 tables and refund forms are drafts. All calculations run in your browser.
Who runs this site. TaxRefundCalculator.io is operated by one independent developer. Tax Refund Calculator is the project name. The developer maintains the calculators and published explanations and handles correction reports through our contact email.
Sources and review notes. The calculators use IRS source documents for the tax rules within their stated scope. You can follow the calculation method and its limitations in How is my tax refund calculated?. The 401(k) limits and HSA limits articles include source links and dated review notes. IRS drafts and third-party forecasts are identified separately from published IRS figures. A source review date records when the cited information was checked; it is not a promise that the guidance will remain unchanged.
Cost and affiliate relationships. The calculator is free to use. We do not currently participate in affiliate programs, use affiliate links or earn affiliate commissions. Details in our Affiliate Disclosure.
What this site is not. We are not a tax preparation service, and nothing here is tax, legal, or financial advice. Estimates are informational only — your actual refund is determined by the IRS when you file. For your specific situation, talk to a qualified tax professional.
Spot an error? Please report it to the maintainer. Include the page address, the statement or calculation you think is wrong, and a link to the relevant IRS source if you have one. For calculator issues, use made-up example amounts that reproduce the problem. Do not send Social Security numbers, account numbers or complete tax returns.
